Virginia Zoo in Norfolk

Mound Park
Nature lovers know that for a great big breath of fresh air and some excellent scenery, there is no place better than Portsmouth's Mound Park. This expansive and lush outdoor area is spread out over 8.8 acres and features a fountain, benches, a foot path and lots of places to just lay out a blanket and relax. Popular with the white collar crowd, as the park is located in the heart of the city.

Fountain Park
Nature lovers who have kids will be able to enjoy their surroundings while the kids have some fun outdoors when you head to Portsmouth's Fountain Park. The park features several amenities, including a special play space for kids ages 2 to 5, which is also known as the tot lot. There's also a monorail, a spiral slide, lily pods, climbacross, cliffhanger, double rumble slide, a cloud walk, an arch bridge, and a twisntwirl. All of that fun is neatly arranged within the park's lush foliage.

Tracy Park
Tracy Park is one of Portsmouth's most popular outdoor attractions for plenty of good reasons. It is the popular gathering place for music lovers during the warmer months of the year as the park's gazebo is the stage on which many concerts are performed. History is also a significant aspect of the park, as it is home to a war memorial remembering all of Portsmouth's brave men and women who were lost in every conflict the country has been a part of. Lots of trees, picnic tables and play areas also make it a great place to relax with family and friends.

Lake Smith Reservoir
The Lake Smith Reservoir in nearby Norfolk offers outdoor lovers an excellent chance to make a big splash! Lake Smith is an impressively large body of water that takes up nearly 193 acres, but offers safe aquatic fun as it is only five feet deep all the way around. In addition to fishing and sunbathing, anglers can enjoy catching some highly desirable largemouth bass.
